Daughter, con 4 nominaciones.
Es
importante hacer notar que estos premios se dedican a las películas cuyos
presupuestos no exceden los $22.5 millones de dólares, por lo que filmes como The
Power of the Dog, Don’t Look Up y Belfast no son elegibles
para los Spirit.
Este año, cuatro mujeres han sido nominadas en la categoría de Mejor
Director(a): Janicza Bravo por Zola, Maggie Gyllenhaal por The
Lost Daughter, Lauren Hadaway por The Novice y Ninja Thyberg por Pleasure.
Estos
premios se consideran como una antesala de los ganadores del Oscar, ya que
cinco de las ocho últimas cintas premiadas en el premio Spirit recibieron
también la estatuilla dorada de la Academia.
