El Festival Internacional de Cine de Toronto (TIFF, por sus siglas en inglés) proyecta cada año alrededor de 300 películas de media centena de países y tiene un impacto económico de 170 millones de dólares y para la edición 2013 presenta más de 10 funciones de gala y 50 presentaciones especiales, que incluyen cerca 40 estrenos mundiales.
El catalogado como el cuarto encuentro fílmico más importante del mundo, después de Cannes, Berlín y Venecia y también considerado la antesala de los premios Oscar, ha anunciado su lista de estrenos mundiales, entre las que se incluyen: The Fifth Estate, filme de Bill Condon sobre WikiLeaks; August: Osage County, adaptación de John Wells, protagonizada por Meryl Streep y Julia Roberts; Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom; Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon, debut directorial de Mike Myers; 12 Years a Slave, de Steve McQueen; Third Person, lo nuevo de Paul Haggis, protagonizada por Liam Neeson, Mila Kunis, Adrien Brody y James Franco; así como You Are Here, una roadmovie, debut de Matthew Weiner.
